Songs I Hate: an addendum

OK, I promise I really do love Christmas music. But I thought of more songs I hate, and felt bad for excluding them from my list yesterday.

1. This is a "two for one" because I lump them together. Rockin' around the Christmas Tree AND Jingle Bell Rock. I hate them both equally. I guess I just don't get my jiggy on enough at Christmas to really like these songs.

2. Carol of the Bells. It just is too fast and frantic and generally makes me a nervous wreck by the time I hear the last "BONG." Also, that much repetition is a problem for me, as I stated yesterday.

3. Christmas Shoes. I know there is pain at Christmastime, but I would rather just keep ignoring it and pretending everyone is always happy and people never go without or lose mothers at Christmas.

4. O Holy Night. It's not the song per se, but I guess it's just that it's so overdone; EVERY singer has a go at it. It becomes more of a vocal competition than a true testament to the sacredness of the Savior's birth. There are a few versions I do enjoy: After Daybreak (my BIL Danny's group, it's on itunes...purchase it if you haven't yet!), MoTab with the King Singers, and Josh Groban. I can only be critical because I happen to sing this song beautifully. Sometime when I'm ready to "put up or shut up" I will record myself and put it on youtube, so you can see if you agree.

OK, tomorrow I will try and narrow down my list of Christmas songs that should be played on the radio because they're awesome.

  1. After your first "Songs I hate" post, every time one of them came on the radio I instantly thought of you, and then I found myself wondering with every song I heard, 'wonder if Rachel hates this song too?' It just makes me laugh now.
