Family Happenings

I am so sorry I never write, but sometimes I'm too busy living my life to write about it. But here are some random Beck happenings and thoughts...

1. Samuel and the piano. I'm really enjoying watching Samuel learn music on the piano. Since the boys have now both attended the same studio, the music is the same. Samuel is a totally different kid than Mason. With Mason, I dreaded the drama that came along with every new song. He would freak out and cry and hate each new song, frustrated that he couldn't play it right the first time. Samuel is calm, and just keeps trying. It's also helpful that he's pretty musical and knows what it's supposed to sound like, so he learns pretty fast. He also seems to enjoy a little one on one attention from me. His lesson is on Monday, so we spend a lot of time on Tuesday plugging through each song and then he's pretty good for the rest of the week. He usually has it memorized by the next lesson.

2. Mason's caring. A couple of things have happened the past couple of weeks that have made me so thankful for Mason. I was thinking about spiritual gifts, and one that Mason definitely has is the gift of compassion. This is pretty rare I think, especially for a boy his age. A week or so ago the teacher realized Lucy was hot and feverish. It was so late in the day though, that she had no choice but to put her on the bus, it was too late to call me and have me come and get her. She assured me that Mason was right there with Lucy, with his arm around her and helping her on the bus. Sure enough, when I anxiously ran up to the bus on its arrival, I see Mason carefully escorting his little sister off the bus, helping her down the steps and into my arms. FYI, it was just a quick 24 hour thing, but I was so thankful for a big brother to take care of her. Then last night Samuel had a splinter and I had the hardest time getting it out. It was little, and lodged deep in the thick skin of his foot. As I dug as gently as I could with a straight pin and some tweezers, Samuel just sobbed and Mason held him and kept saying, "Samuel, it's OK. I think she's almost got it. You're almost done. Hang on, it'll be OK." So sweet. It makes me so thankful for him.

3. Lizzy talks so cute, I can't stand it. I don't want her to grow up so fast, I want to freeze her just where she is right now. She can't pronounce her "r's" correctly. Here are a couple of my favorite phrases, I will think of more and add them later.

When I come to turn off the TV, she says:
"No, it's almost ovee." (It's almost over).

When thirsty, she wants a drink of wadee.

"I like this skeet." (I like this skirt).

4. General Conference was so amazing! I loved all the talks. One goal I made was to spend less time on the computer and more time in the scriptures and with my kids, so with that, I guess I'd better go.
