Lizzy my sweet....

I just wanted to share a few pics of our cute Lizzy. What a little joy she is. I also wanted to talk about hand-me-downs. So many times you hear about hand-me-down clothing like it is something to be embarrassed about. I couldn't disagree more. We have been so lucky to be on the HMD lists of some very stylish people. I love going through sacks of clothes, it's like Christmas to me. Not that I would describe us as "needy" or anything...goodness, I have enough fabric and patterns that if need be, I could clothe our whole neighborhood for a year. OK, I'd have to dip into Mom's stash for that, but I could do it. I could also go and buy stuff at Target or Old Navy or whatever if I had to, but I find that I hardly have to do that at all, at least for the girls. A few years ago, a friend from our pool gave me some clothes that had belonged to her daughter Abby. One in particular was a special outfit, worn on Abby's third birthday. That's the outfit below....Lucy wore this a lot, I have some cute tights that match it exactly, and there is a gaggle of buttons sewn on the front in the shape of a heart. Now it fits Lizzy, and I love putting her in it, I think of all the hours it was worn by three different little girls, with three different little minds full of ideas and little girl thoughts and adventures. So fun.
Now on to my little Rapunzel beauty. What a doll she is, and when she says she wants a Rapunzel dress, what can I do but give her one? Only problem is, I don't want an itchy dress that will fall apart in one or two wearings. So I bought some quilter's cotton and made her one, combining a few different patterns to get the "look" I wanted. The best part about this dress is that it's a little big on Lizzy, so it fits skinny Lucy with no problem, albeit a little short (knee length). Please keep your eyes on her amazing baby blues, and not the terrible blinds or messy bookshelf behind her.
Now all she needs is the wig. The bare feet really do complete the Rapunzel look.
