I should see if Lucy can take a picture of me right now. I kept thinking yesterday, "I am so tired, my eyes are just burning!" Well, I was tired but my eye (left one in particular) was starting to get some kind of infection. So this morning I was still in my PJ's at ten a.m. making chili. Of course I pick Logan's Roadhouse Chili which is sooo amazing and yummy but I had to chop 3 onions. My food processor broke awhile back, and I don't think about it much since I don't use it all that often, but boy, this morning I really needed it. Badly. So here I am chopping and sobbing, chopping and sobbing, taking breaks to soothe the agony in my eyes. Then in a stroke of desparate genius, I grab Mason's swimming goggles which yes, are still hanging by the back door even though the pool has been closed for almost 2 months. My problem with this though, is that I can't wear my contacts so if I wore the goggles I couldn't see at all. Blindness + sharp knife = not a good idea. So I put the bright green camo goggles on, tightly, then carefully balanced my glasses on top of those, tilted a bit so I could see the countertop as I chopped. It worked like a charm to ease the stinging but I couldn't help feeling a bit pitiful about my situation. But all is well now, I now have about 60 servings of very yummy chili in two crockpots on my countertop. I'm also pretty sure that any eye germs will not survive the long hot cooking process, so please don't hesitate to stop by the "Relief Society camp-in" and try Rachel's Pinkeye Chili.
Look at you and your inventiveness! That might not be a word. I bet your chili was delicious- and I loved all the birthday pics!
ReplyDeleteI can tell you right now if you would have been able to wear your contacts you wouldn't have needed the googles. Somehow your contacts block the onion fumes from getting in your eyes. At least that's what it does for me. I always wondered why I never get 'onion cry' and then someone told me it was because of my contacts. Go figure. I am glad you were inventive though. Too bad you didn't get a snap shot.
ReplyDeleteThis is the funniest story EVER! I laughed out loud thinking of you with goggles and glasses on! Thanks for sharing!
