Utah trip, part 1

So, I've decided to blog our Utah trip in installments. It is 10:30 after all and uploading pictures takes quite awhile, so by the time they're on the blog, I don't want to talk about them anymore. So I'll keep it brief, because no one tells the story like Matt, it's actually pretty funny now that I can look back on it. In short...we woke up at 4:00am, were at RDU by 5:30am EST. Arrived in Denver at 10:00am. Missed our connection by 3 minutes, but our bags made it. However, because of the bag confusion, thinking that we must be terrorists or something, we were delayed and missed 3 connections after that. Finally we arrived in SLC at 11:57pm New Year's Eve. I'm sure Reed can think of lots of other fun ways he could have rung in the New Year, but he was awesome to come pick us up at the airport. We stayed with MaryAnn, attended Mike's wedding, and had a wonderful time. But this first post is just the airport. We had nothing to do for 12 hours but take pictures, so go ahead and take the journey with us....
Here we are camped out down by the baggage claim in Denver.

We found a cool little playground. Well, it was cool for a good hour or so. I thought this was cute of the girls. Lucy never fails to surprise me. Of all four children, she was probably the best overall to roll with the punches and enterain herself.

Here's Lizzy at the end of the day (as usual the pictures are not in order). She has food on her onesie and is just sick of all animals and people.

Eating her babyfood. Thank goodness I packed extra food and diapers at the last minute.

See the look on her face? Like, "this was fun about an hour ago, how can I play with this and make it interesting again?"

Lizzy looking like we all felt. Her hair cracks me up.

Lucy found a little hiding place behind the ticket counter and she and Samuel spent a great deal of time there.

So cute, Lucy playing and Lizzy Kate peeking around the side.

Mason had a pretty good meltdown at about this point when he found out we weren't getting on the flight.

Mason on the playground.

Matt trying to stay calm and pleasant, but strong and convincing at the same time. He did a great job, and I was so proud of the example he set for the children, never losing it, yelling, or treating anyone with disrespect. I'm not sure I would have done the same in his place.

It was at this point that I started to lose it in a weird way. I've already read Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but for some reason while reading it aloud to the kids I started laughing and had tears...lots of them...rolling down my cheeks. It's funny but not THAT funny.

This was still pretty early in the process, we're cheerfully playing in a cubby.

Cubby time.

I was pretty proud of Samuel too. He was a good sport.

Stay tuned, I'll post pictures of the actual trip, maybe tomorrow.

  2. Holy cow girl......you definitely deserve the medal of honor or something. I am glad that Matt stayed calm. I would have hurt someone I am sure of it. I am glad to hear you only had a few melt downs. Good Job Beck family!!!
